Frankincense

Long before it appeared in modern skincare, frankincense held a significant place in Traditional Chinese Medicine, where it's known as Ru Xiang. For centuries, TCM practitioners have used frankincense resin as part of broader traditional formulas and practices — it's one of the more well-known aromatic resins in Chinese medicine history, alongside myrrh, with which it's traditionally paired.

Frankincense has carried enduring significance across a tradition spanning thousands of years, which is part of why we wanted to build a cosmetic oil around it.

Why We Chose It

At Ora Botanical, we wanted a product built around one ingredient with real history behind it, rather than a long list of synthetic additives. Our oil combines steam-distilled frankincense with fractionated coconut oil — two ingredients, nothing else. It's formulated as a cosmetic massage and skin-conditioning oil: lightweight, fast-absorbing, and left with a smooth, non-greasy finish on the skin.

How to Use It

A small amount goes a long way. Warm a few drops between your palms and apply to skin as part of a massage, or use it as a daily body oil after showering while skin is still slightly damp, which helps it absorb more easily. Because it's fast-absorbing and non-greasy, it also works well layered under clothing without leaving residue.

A Common Choice for Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Lightweight, slow-absorbing oils are commonly chosen by practitioners for lymphatic drainage massage, where the gentle gliding technique itself is the focus of the treatment. Our frankincense oil's smooth glide and quick absorption make it a practical choice for this kind of massage work, alongside general remedial and relaxation techniques.

Simple, By Design

We didn't want to dilute frankincense with a long ingredient list. Our oil is deliberately minimal — just frankincense and fractionated coconut oil — because we think an ingredient with this much history doesn't need much added to it.
